Winter hadn’t frozen the marigolds, still blooming just below the foggy glass of his window. It was sunny outside. He unlatched the hinges, and let the cold air trickle in.
Father Lawrence, the priest at a small church just outside London, is conscripted as a chaplain for the Great War. Sent to the north of France to serve as a spiritual guide for allied soldiers, this new position presents issues for his own crisis of faith. Battalion sizes are multiplying, and with them, so too are the number of priests crammed inside the expanding hospital.
