Summary
Robert Robertson III intended- begrudgingly- to take up the life his father left behind. The old cruising trawler, The Astral, had been handed down from grandfather to father to son, a rusted heirloom with more ghosts than fresh paint. Now it was Robert’s turn to haul it back into the sea, whether he liked it or not.
But even he had to admit he couldn’t run the damn thing alone. The only man he would want to work with had already settled into retirement. Still, necessity outweighed pride, so he posted a call for a deckhand.
Only one soul answered.
Herman, tall, trembling, wide-eyed Herman, showed up looking like he might bolt if someone sneezed too loudly. But he was willing, he was young, and more importantly… he was the only applicant.
So, by the simple law of desperation, the job was his. Robert didn’t mention how his father used to say the sea knew their family by name. Or how something out there had been circling the boat since the day the old man died.
Something that still hadn’t gone away.

Summary
At first playing Zenigata had been a fun distraction for Lupin, a way to fluster and upset and manipulate his rival that doubled as a guaranteed win and pick-me-up. Then it had been a way to get off when he was bored. But over time, as they both got older, Lupin realized just how much he really was the center of Zenigata's world, and in his narcissism and greed wanted to be able to actually substantiate and savor it. It became worth the slow, grueling process of getting something from Zenigata that wasn't buried under so many obfuscating layers and hangups, to dig until Lupin could touch the brilliance of that kind of obsessive devotion directly.

Summary
"Now, Lupin doesn’t cry very often. He had gotten used to bottling any negative emotions he felt inside a dark part of his brain while he smiled and joked. Tonight, though, his brain had gotten the best of him."
