    “I want to know you,” Celebrimbor said. “You and all that there is to you.”
    Beneath his hands, he felt Annatar tense, his skin growing colder as if every part of him, including his blood, wanted to withdraw from Celebrimbor’s touch.
    “You don’t know what you are asking for,” Annatar said quietly.
    “Perhaps not,” Celebrimbor replied. “And yet this is what I want. You have offered me so much over these years: unnumbered gifts that you gave freely, that I did not even need to ask for. So let this be the first, the last, and the only thing I ask for myself.”
    Let me in. Let me know you. Show me who you were, before you came to me. Let me know all that is ancient and primordial, terrifying and incomprehensible about you. Show me the god beneath the face of the man. Permit me to know you as you truly are.

    On the eve of the creation of the Great Rings, Celebrimbor makes a dangerous request and history changes forever.

    Summary

    Roman escapes back to Barbados after the disastrous board meeting to find some peace and quiet among the ocean waves. Everything changes when a concerned Gerri shows up unexpectedly, and they begin attempting to navigate all the bumps in the road--hand in hand.

    Gerri sighs and buries her head in his shoulder. He kisses the top of her head, her hair smelling like lavender and vanilla. Fuck, she loves him so much. How can she love him so much?

    Somewhere in the back of his mind, Roman still thinks this isn’t real. That when she leaves the comfortable nest of Barbados, Gerri will return to her senses. She’ll move on and this will all be some pleasant Christmas holiday she can reminisce about in the future. That’s another reason why he needs to put some distance between them--so she can figure out what she really wants, and if that includes him. As much as it fucking kills him, he wants her to know it’s real. The same way he does.

    Summary

    The doctor was speaking Federation Standard, which normally sounded to Garak like his own language, Kardasi (thanks to Universal Translators). Now, however, Garak was simply hearing the language that Julian was speaking. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem – Garak did know Standard, having learned it from a young age as part of his training. Unfortunately, the doctor still thought he was plain and simple Garak the tailor, who would have no business knowing the Federation’s language.

    ~~~~~
    The frustrating part was that Julian actually knew Kardasi, but he couldn’t tell Garak that. He’d learned the language (which was notoriously difficult for foreigners) in about two weeks after befriending Garak, and even read some of Garak’s book recommendations in the original Kardasi. But letting Garak know that would raise questions – questions that Julian wouldn’t be able to answer. So he had to pretend that he didn’t understand.
    ~~~~~

    Or, a Universal Translator malfunction prompts both Garak and Julian to reveal some secrets.
