“Ah- I’m ok. Don’t worry,” Xie Lian stuttered as he saw the man, looking even more handsome up close, “It’s just a scratch, nothing serious.”
“How can it be nothing?” The young man asked, his smile slipping for a second before going back to how it was, “Let me take care of your injuries. You got hurt because of me after all.” He said as his smile turned into a teasing grin, now looking more genuine.
Xie Lian’s face turned red again, hearing this from the man himself, “Ah, you shouldn’t…”
“Gege, I insist,” The young man said with a charming grin, clearly not taking “No” for an answer.
Or: 5 times “General Hua” got hurt and San Lang got upset about it, and the one time it was the way around.

“Listen,” Fu Yao starts, “You have to understand, that San Lang of yours isn’t normal. He’s survived things that normal mortals couldn’t, and he dodged a blast of spiritual energy. If he’s said anything to you…” he trails off.
Xie Lian thinks back to the past week. He and San Lang haven’t looked like newly-met strangers. He sighs, “Fu Yao, it’s alright. I know what I’m getting into. I can make my own decisions,” Fu Yao raises an eyebrow at this, but Xie Lian perseveres. “I know that San Lang is… different, from others, but he really is just someone I met on my travels. We’re good friends. Don’t worry.”
Fu Yao’s eye twitches.
OR: Xie Lian and Hua Cheng meet 200 years earlier. When Xie Lian ascends, he pretends that San Lang is an ordinary, mortal youth he met in his travels. Crack ensues.

Summary
Carefully, he lowered himself to the floor and let all the books trapped to his body slide free. Then he turned, and was greeted by someone kneeling beside him. A young man. A youth, in a maple-red robe, and long black boots, dark hair tied up in a messy ponytail. His clothing was fine and sophisticated, but his hair gave him a bit of a wild, reckless air. In his arms were a number of books, which he set onto the floor as Xie Lian watched. Though the youth didn’t say a word, his eyes were wide and his mouth, slightly parted, carried lines of concern.

Perhaps exploring the library-den of a wrath ghost is a stupid idea for Xie Lian, bad luck extraordinaire.
Or perhaps this will be his lucky break.

All that He Xuan had wanted was to catch a break, feed his dragons, and spend a few quiet days in his domain before he inevitably had to resume his ruse up in the Heavens.
What He Xuan got instead was trouble at the edge of his territory.
But perhaps this would turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the water Calamity.
