“good morning, rui,” tsukasa smiles widely, his eyes closed from the drowsiness. startling him, tsukasa’s closed eyes make him still oblivious to rui turning the knob the opposite way, a horrendous attempt at stooping the fire. the flame makes its last flicker before he hurriedly turns the knob again, switching the stove off at last.
tsukasa reaches out his hands blindly, grabbing at the apron by rui’s sides. it’s difficult to string together a coherent thought together at this hour, much less force his eyes open to the bright light of the kitchen above them.
rui slowly pushes the pan out of sight. “why, good morning tsukasa-kun! what has awoken you this early?”
except, the quiver in his voice is evident, and tsukasa makes a disgruntled noise at the silence that follows. “i smell something burning. are you cooking again?”

upon waking up early, rui has a secret mission : to cook him and tsukasa fried rice for breakfast! except, he’s quite prone to starting kitchen fires.
