“I asked you many questions here,” Mumei laughed softly, fingers already moving to brush against Kronii’s cheek until she could cup it in her hand. Amber eyes glittering in soft amusement.“Do you remember asking me if I believe in soulmates?” Kronii clarified, the nervousness only growing more and more with every second, “About how you could meet someone and just know? That you could find someone and just know you were made for eachother. Like you’d met before and no matter how many lifetimes and universes kept you apart you’d still find them?”

“Hey Mumei” Kronii whispered her name. Found herself almost addicted to the way Mumei hummed in response automatically. The sound was too warm, as if it held something deep within that neither could speak aloud. Found herself growing addicted to how Mumei always seemed to want to touch her in some way, how when she pulled her head away ever so slightly, Kronii was met with eyes that reminded her of prized amber.

Saw peace in the way Mumei wrapped the child in one of their towels once she’d finished cleaning her off, how she held the baby close to her chest. Saw love in the way she sat on their bed and motioned for Kronii to join her once she’d finally washed the last of the dirt from her skin. Amused at how their bed had been changed from its usual look to something more akin to a frantic throw together of a nest. Multiple pillows and blankets thrown around until the instincts had been quelled. Heard the small chatter of a purr in Mumei’s chest as she inspected it with great care. Allowed Mumei to guide her down with a single hand against her shoulder until her back was flush against bedsheets and pillows and felt peace in the way warmth blossomed in her as Mumei curled up against her. Baby still held close as she rested her head atop her shoulder and relaxed enough to allow the feathers of her wings to fluff up just enough to show her exhaustion.
Counted as minutes became hours. The gentle sounds of sleep in the room enough to keep her alone with her thoughts.
