    Summary

Ava refused every attempt that Beatrice made to push her away, working her way into the smaller moments until it was impossible to imagine them without her, and Beatrice knew what it was. It was love. Whether she wanted to admit it to herself was an entirely different discussion.

Of course, Ava wanted to talk about it. She talks about love like Beatrice talks about perfect football weather – soccer weather is what most of her American friends call it, and when Beatrice isn’t thinking, sometimes she calls it that, now, too. Ava talks about love like that: like she isn’t thinking, really. She talks about love like she’s telling Bea what she wants for dinner.

(Or, the one with the secret relationship and their teams are rivals, Beatrice finding herself, and Ava loving her through it all.)

    Summary

When Ava realized she was in love with her best friend she knew what she had to do so she decided to be the bigger person and confess her undying love for her best friend. Happy ending right? Wrong... Beatrice is a dumbass and doesn't realize that Ava meant "I'm in love with you" and not "I'm in love with you (as a friend)"

Or Beatrice makes Ava confess twice cause she didn't quite get it the first time

(The biggest case of miscommunication in Beatrice's history)

    Summary

The first time Ava saw her was during the summer heatwave of '62.

Ava had worked at Sal's Diner since she was sixteen, and after three years of slinging hash and pouring coffee for truckers and locals, she'd developed a sixth sense about customers. The regulars who'd tip well. The ones who'd camp out for hours nursing a single cup. The handsy jerks who thought a waitress uniform was an invitation.

But her? She was something else entirely.

It's 1962 in the middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania, and Ava Silva's life runs on diner coffee and routine—until Beatrice Bennett walks in with her fancy camera and turns everything upside down. A professional photographer with stories in her eyes and a habit of disappearing, Beatrice becomes Ava's favorite irregular regular. But when two years of silence follow their summer together, Ava thinks it's over... until the bell above the diner door jingles one rainy night in '64, and there she stands.
