Rex leaned toward Cody, swallowing hard. “…I’m starting to think this isn’t a sanctioned mission, certainly not by General Kenobi."
Cody appeared pale now, his gold-flecked brown eyes wide and his gloved hands clenched tightly at his sides, as if bracing for a blow. “You don’t say.”

Summary
A perfectly nice radio astronomer and his adorable cat are minding their own business when they get abducted by a pyromaniac mathematician and a USAF colonel with questionable loyalties. A nightmarish, quixotic adventure draws them ever closer to cracking the enigmatic nine-chevron address.
Hostile information landscapes and the threat of mind control make it hard to know anything for sure. One thing is certain though: no one smokes in space.

The third of The Multiverse Triptych - each individual story can technically stand on its own merit - but they do benefit from knowledge of each other. Wonderful author is wonderful.
Brilliant improbable buddy-cop type science gang space pirates, Lucian Alliance being a genuine threat, and ascension fuckery oh my!
