“He left me, Hen. He abandoned me. He was the one person who was supposed to always have my back and he just left.” Buck could feel the force with which he spoke. He could feel the tears that he’s fought so hard to keep back these last few weeks threatening to spill. He takes a deep breath and a step back. “He left me.” He says again. “He left me and I feel broken. And I don’t know what to do with that.”
Hen’s eyes fill with a mixture of understanding and confusion. “Oh, Buckaroo,” she says, carefully moving toward him, almost like she’s afraid he’ll bolt like a startled animal. “You and Tommy broke up months ago. I’m not trying to imply that you should be over it by now or anything, but I thought you’d be coping better-”
“Tommy?” Buck can’t hide the surprise in his voice when he interrupts her. “I’m not talking about Tommy. I’m talking about Eddie. Eddie left me.”
