Summary
Shouta wakes with a jolt at the sound of his cell phone buzzing away on his bedside table. He rubs his eyes to see the screen better after snatching it to bring it closer to his face, squinting in the low light.
It’s a number he doesn’t recognize. Probably hero work, then. He slides his thumb across the screen, sitting up in bed as he presses the phone to his ear.
“What.”
“... is– is this Aizawa?”
Shouta’s heart just about stops as an icy sensation cascades down his spine. Eyes wide and muscles tensed, he’s suddenly very awake.
“Todoroki?”
Or: Aizawa gets a call in the middle of the night from the student he’d least expect.

What else is he supposed to say? "Oh, one of the most promising students in the class is in danger of failing English because he can’t see the damn board." How pathetic.
Shoto is visually impaired in his left eye from the burn he received in childhood. Having to endure the difficulties that came with his vision for years, it was almost easy to forget about it. That is, until he starts at U.A. and is sat in the back of the classroom.

Endeavor’s lip curls, flames slinking across his eyebrows. “I apologized, Shouto. Now you forgive me.”
He sounds like a child, Shouto thinks half-hysterically, a child who has been put in time-out and is forced to apologize before they can go back to recess. Some weathered old thing deep inside him, a rope that he leaned on and clung to throughout years of burning, backbreaking training, snaps.
And suddenly Shouto is furious.

Summary
Set immediately after the results were announced at the Provisional Hero License Exam. UA decides to allow the students to spend the weekend at home after the exam, since everyone has been working hard while living in the dorms. But for Shouto Todoroki, who just failed his licensing exam, home has an extremely different connotation. Endeavor decides to teach his son a lesson over the weekend after embarrassing him on such an official stage, and Shouto has to return to school as if nothing happened, making sure not to draw attention to how volatile his home life is. It is much more difficult than he imagined it would be.
Or: where Todoroki is pretending that he’s not falling apart, and everyone attempts to offer a lifeline. If only he ever believed that people actually care about him.
