    Summary

Phainon’s soulmark appeared when he was a young boy in Aedes Elysiae. It was supposed to tell him the name of his soulmate, but it was written in an alphabet he had never seen before. He delighted in the idea of a soulmate from a faraway land.

Of course, life didn’t turn out as he’d planned. By the time he arrived in Okhema, love was the last thing on his mind. He'd never learned how to read the mark, and at this point, he'd resolved he never would. He'd dedicated his life to the Flame Chase.

Once he met Mydei, he felt a connection he had never experienced with anyone. Surely, if he had a soulmate, it had to be him. They started spending more time together, growing closer, until Mydei informed him - he had a soulmate, but it wasn't Phainon.

    (Or was it?)

This is a story of a vow, a fight and a dance, and what blossoms in the aftermath.

    Summary

He hadn’t noticed his frown until it pulled deeper as Hyacine giggled into her hand and he asked, “What?”

“It just reminds me of how eager Ica was to see you too. That’s the power of free food. The best way to someone’s heart is always through their stomach!”

“Perhaps in the case of poison.”

“Poison? No no! I meant—like how I train Little Ica with treats! Like, if she comes to me when I call her then she gets a treat. Or people who don’t receive much attention from the chimeras will bring chimeras cookies the Garden. That way, even if they don’t have treats, the chimeras will still be happy to see them.”

    “You speak of bribery.”

Her mouth dropped open wordlessly, then closed again as her nose scrunched. “I suppose you could look at it that way.”

    “I understand now.”

This entire time, Mydei had failed to realise he was treating Phainon like a prized pet.

Food trends come and go in Okhema and the newest one, the chimera cookie, is no different. Before it fades back into obscurity, it leaves its mark on Mydei and Phainon’s relationship.

    Summary

The sight was downright baffling: Mydei’s usually ill-tempered cat rubbing against the leg of his one-night-stand, purring up a storm. Mydei could do nothing but grasp for the only reasonable conclusion: “You have a cat too.”

    “I don’t, actually.”

    “Some other pet then?”

    “No…”

“Any experience with animals at all?” Mydei asked, a bit incredulous.

Phainon blinked. “I fed my neighbour’s goldfish for a week when I was eight?”

Mydei looked to their feet, where Fig Stew was now winding between Phainon’s ankles in crystal-clear affection. Nikador, he thought, in slight disbelief. Tell me I didn’t somehow sleep with the only human in Amphoreus who my cat happens to like.

Mydei has a routine. Said routine does not involve his cat falling in love with his gym-rival-with-benefits. (Especially not when it’s starting to make Mydei fall for him a little, too.)

    Summary

“Thank you, Professor,” Phainon manages to say, all in one breath. He looks from Mydei, to Castorice, and then back to him. “And you, Professor. I’m an admirer of your work.”

He says this with the softest hint of bitterness. A little clipped, but polite.

“Likewise. It’s a pity I beat you to it,” Mydei says. His voice is deep. Holds the upturned tilt of something playful and pleased. That has Phainon seething, just a little. And Mydei smirks, mirth bright in those eyes, as if reveling in Phainon’s failures.

It’s a pity Mydei is so fetchingly handsome when cocky. All the lectures Phainon had attended in the past had been spent admiring Mydei. Back then, he’d been utterly enamoured.

Things are different now, for a multitude of reasons.

    - Uncovering the mysteries of the Ancient Okheman ruins, Phainon, a recent graduate, pursuing his PhD, and Mydei, his Mentor, have strange dreams, and soon realize, that their souls have known each other long before this life. But what can one do when a love that was meant to be doomed is finally found in a life that is kinder? Will they willingly fall over that edge, or let grief for a life they could not have drowned them entirely?
