Summary
Simon stood there for a moment, the wind still tugging at his pyjamas and tousling his hair. For the second time in 12 hours, he felt that strange warmth bubble up inside him – a tentative hope. Maybe this island life would work out after all. Maybe this was what he needed to put himself back together. And okay, fine. Maybe having a ridiculously cute neighbour didn’t hurt either.
Simon watched as the guy half-jogged, half-stumbled his way along the road, tripping not once, but twice. Something about their conversation had gone weirdly sideways, but Simon couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Why the sudden rush, Will? Got a hot breakfast date with your labrador?

Simon was doubled over, coughing and retching. Wille, just a step away from him, was on his knees, sitting back on his heels and blindly staring straight ahead, his skin a sickly grey colour. Summary
Having just graduated from university with a law degree he never wanted, Wille chooses to follow his own path against his family’s wishes and opens up a quiet, cozy bookstore in the city. The store is doing well, tourists wander in during the weekends, and locals have started calling him by name. There’s even a little book club that meets in the back on Thursdays. On paper, he should feel proud. He is proud. He’s finally doing what he loves and he’s genuinely happy.
But some nights, especially the rainy ones like this one, he feels the hollowness anyway. The missing thing. The question with no answer. He doesn’t know what it is exactly that’s missing, just that something is. He can feel it.
Then, as if straight out of the many romance novels that stock his shelves, a beautiful boy with dark eyes and dark curls, and soaking wet from the storm, bursts into his quiet shop looking for a vinyl, and everything changes.

Sweet, lovely, persuasive little thing. Wilhelm felt intoxicated every time he so much as thought of him. His mouth ached with the need to say Simon’s name, his lips burned with the memories, and his heart twisted with a tenderness that made him feel almost fragile.

And he was careful in his assessment, too: he’d always rolled his eyes at the characters on TV shows who whispered, lovesick and doe-eyed, “I have never felt this way about anyone ever.”
Wilhelm is caught in a consuming infatuation with someone who can never truly be his. Struggling to reconcile his feelings, he tries to ignore the longing, but it lingers, a constant ache beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Simon is overwhelmed by the burdens of his work and the unresolved ghosts of his past, leaving little room for anything else. As he navigates his tangled emotions, love seems like the last thing on his mind — until, perhaps, it isn’t.
