“I’m fine. Things are going well. I…” Glinda hesitated. She tried not to ever say anything too sappy to Elphaba, who never knew how to accept such things gracefully, but she couldn’t help it. “I miss you,” Glinda admitted softly. Again, the line went silent for a beat too long. Glinda opened her mouth to soften the admission, but before she could, Elphaba’s quiet voice filled her ear.
“I miss you, too.”
After graduation, Elphaba and Glinda find themselves in separate cities and therefore apart for the first time in years. They keep in contact through letters, phone calls, and occasional visits. When Elphaba won’t stop being elusive about how she’s faring after being cut off financially, Glinda worries a completely appropriate amount. (She tries to offer a completely appropriate amount of help, too.)

She spends it in a guest suite in the Palace, ushered there by Madame Morrible and visited by the Wizard and given any amenity she asks for and many she doesn’t. She thinks about Elphaba. From the moment she’d met her, Glinda had never stopped. And she won’t now. She can’t now.

“If only someone paid attention to their surroundings while they were flying around on that dirty old thing.” Glinda gestures with a curled lip towards Elphaba’s broom, and Elphaba huffs in irritation.
“Excuse me for not considering all the other flying people out there,” Elphaba drolls, then glances around. They’re in some sort of contraption—a metal platform encased in a shiny, shifting transparent sphere—hovering steady in the fog. “What the hell even is this thing?”
“My bubble,” Glinda announces with a proud lift of her chin.
Or: Bubble sex. Sex in the bubble. And what comes after. (AKA, the one where they start hooking up during intermission and Act II)
