Mark and Donghyuck both have their roles to play in the palace - Mark a royal guard and Donghyuck an entertainer for His Highness' royal court, singing for crowds and for one-on-one guests to his private quarters. But Mark isn't so sure it is only singing that his friend does for entertainment. He isn't sure what role Donghyuck is playing for him, either.

"No, tell me. Do you think it'd be fun to 'spend the night' with a beta? Your keeper? Nobody?" Mark's voice only got harsher. "You don't understand the severity of this situation. You may think it's nothing and could feel like you're allowed to write things like these." He waved the note. "But this is serious. This thing is a piece of evidence that could get us both punished. They could accuse us of things that never happened just because of this."
Donghyuck is an omega student, and Mark is his beta keeper. Their relationship should be simple and platonic since that's what all people tend to believe, that's how it usually goes. But Donghyuck's heart flutters when he sees Mark. How can you not love him when he's always so nice, attentive, and caring? The opposite of the alpha Donghyuck is paired.

“Oh, come on! Mark Lee?” Donghyuck scoffed before continuing, “Sure he’s a good-looking guy, but trust me, girls like her don’t actually want a pretty boy like that. She’ll get bored with all that vanilla eventually. He’s not a competition. Besides, I heard they’re not exclusive yet”
Or: Donghyuck and Mark goes for the same girl. She is sweet, beautiful, popular, every guys dream. Their powerplay becomes a regular, and Donghyuck just wants Soli all to himself. While he hates Mark with everything he's got, he somehow can't seem to get rid of the guy, both physically and mentally. The more he tries to push Mark out of the picture, the more he finds himself tangled up with him — in ways he never saw coming.
