Summary
Written during a brainstorm session for an OC within The One Ring TTRPG system, this vignette peeks at the dynamic between Morgoth and Sauron in the first years of the Sun (First Age). At this time, Maedhros is Morgoth's captive, and Sauron has recently acquired a captive of his own. The OC Ilcar's past is largely irrelevant to this piece, but the Orcs who overpowered and captured him thought (incorrectly) that the Moon rising from the west at Ilcar's back marked him as some messenger from the Valar. Sauron and Morgoth both have ulterior motives to keeping (and mistreating) their respective prisoners. This piece briefly touches on those motivations and how honesty and cruelty are often one and the same for these two dark lords.

Summary
There is a rainforest in India that the wise poachers avoid. Few who venture in ever return, and those that do rarely come back all the way. The leopards in this forest have a protector who walks the worlds between leopard and man, but who calls the leopard kin and the human only enemy. When a frightened boy escapes from the latest hunting party to feel the protector's wrath, he tracks the boy down, determined to leave no survivors. But when he comes fact-to-face with the exotic, defenseless boy, he cannot bring himself to end that life. Instead, what he has reviled for years becomes his constant companion.
