Summary
Regulus has it all figured out. He keeps men on a rotating roster so none can get too close, works nights as a dancer to make the most of his chronic insomnia, and pushes everything he doesn’t want to remember about the past ten years into the recesses of his mind. There'd always been talk, around the Isles, of old creatures from the deep that would throw themselves on the rocks and call out to trawlermen on their morning catch, luring them through the fog to wreckage and despair; stranding them on causeways at high tides to perish and drown. Remus had never put much stock in any of that.
Remus finds something on the beach, among the mist and the rock pools and the banks of kelp, white with seafoam.

Summary
He held his smile, tilting his head and bringing a hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear. The man’s steps faltered, and teeth were barred within Regulus’s grin, the last warning he thought he was capable of giving. Like a wild animal before attacking, hungry and desperate but still civil enough to show signs of inevitable consumption.
It was silent besides the sound of the breeze, the birds smart enough to recognize a threat, and the animals having much more self-preservation than most, something innate and instinctual.
The flies kept around, though, fond of the heat and the creaking of the floor where Regulus shifted.
