Summary
“You made pelmeni,” Shane remarked, stepping closer to the dining table.
Ilya looked from where he was arranging the knives to sit nicely next to the plates. He looked at Shane, then at the pelmeni tray on the table, then back at Shane again. His face was calm and collected but his eyes told a different story.
Ilya knew that pelmeni didn’t fit Shane’s diet. He knew that, especially after the conversation yesterday, and still made something like that. This was clearly an act of rebellion against Shane’s diet from Ilya. Ilya didn’t accept it, so he had to defy it. 'Twas only natural for him.
“I did,” Ilya answered slowly, moving his gaze away from Shane again.
Shane didn’t want to pick a fight so he just sat down around the table, waiting for Ilya to do the same. He’d make it up later for sure.
Or, Shane has problems with food and Ilya tries to help. Shane might accept the help, too. Eventually.

Ilya’s skin was as overheated as Shane’s, impossibly warm and comforting against Shane’s fingers. His index finger subconsciously started tracing the moles on Ilya’s face like mapping constellations. The one on his chin, the one next to his lip, the one on his other lip, cheek, jawline, underneath his jaw, above his eyebrow, the ones on his forehead, and a secret one hidden well by his hair, placed right under a particularly thick tuft of curls at the beginnings of his hairline.
Or: Shane is as obsessed with Ilya's moles as Ilya is obsessed with Shane's freckles.

Summary
All in all, things had gone well. Still, on the drive home, as he was sitting behind the wheel, the sun already well into setting and Ilya smiling contently in the passenger seat, most definitely full from all the pasta and vodka he’d consumed, Shane couldn’t help but feel as if something was off. It bothered him but he couldn’t do much about it, since he couldn’t quite place his finger on what it was. And that bothered him so incredibly much.
Or, what if Shane and Ilya had gotten married post-episode 6/post-book 1.
