Summary
“Over the phone it seemed like this trip was a bit of a shit show. I thought you deserved a treat.”
“So far I’m loving the treat.”
“Oh, this isn’t the treat.”
Shifting to sit down on the bed Tom stole another kiss. “Well what did you get me then?”
“Not me. You bought yourself something.”
A roll of satisfaction works its way down Tom’s spine at the thought of Maverick spending Tom’s money so easily. “And what did I get myself?”

Summary
More than half the movie had gone by when Tom moved his arm from the arm rest between them, shifting the rest up so there is nothing between them and slipping his hand into Maverick’s lap, palm sliding across his thigh, indecently high and possessive. The heat of his hand sunk through the athletic pants that Tom had set out for him to wear earlier into Maverick’s thigh. The oddly casual choice of clothing made more sense now.
Leaning in, Tom whispered, “Tell me to stop and I will.” In response Maverick slowly but purposefully spread his legs out wider.

Summary
When Maverick walked onto the balcony and caught the sour earthy scent of drugs, he scrunched his nose up against the smell and plopped himself down in the empty seat next to Tom.
“You know, you really don’t give off ‘weed guy’ vibes.”
Tom rolled his eyes over to Maverick and took a draw off the joint in his hand. “I don’t know how to respond to that.”
“I don’t know. Rich white guy. You think cocaine maybe. Pills. Not weed. Very everyman of you.”

Summary
The day before, Maverick had answered a call from Ice with his heart in his throat.
“I’d like for you to fly down and see me.”
“I’m assuming you’re not giving me permission to commandeer a jet.”
A huff of a laugh came down the line. “You would be correct. If those words ever come out of my mouth, please get me to a doctor because clearly I’m having some sort of event.”
“Yeah, yeah, you’ll see. Someday you’ll actually need someone to steal a jet for you and then where will we be?”
“Mav. Come on, I’m serious. Say yes.”
“Yes, of course I want to see you. Does this have anything to do with–”
“We can talk when you get here. Can you come tomorrow?”

“I feel it should go without saying, but you were more than welcome to join me when you came in.”
A blush curled across Maverick’s cheeks. “Your assistant is in the other room.”
“Then I guess you better be quiet.”

“Do you know why I chose you?"
“Ass you could bounce a quarter off of?" Maverick noticed the smile at the corner of Tom's mouth, so at least he wasn't a total robot.
Tom crossed the room, undoing the clasp on his watch. “I'm not going to say you aren't beautiful. But it's because you looked dangerous."

The one thing that Art and Tashi had been certain of when they opened their relationship to include Patrick was that the sex would never be bad.
That was not entirely the case.

Summary
Maverick swallowed against the lump in his throat. Thought of the church services he sometimes got dragged to as a kid. Thought of the serpent who offered Eve an apple promising knowledge. In that moment he understood a little of what God was warning Eve. The sharing of knowledge felt like a sin. Some things could never be unlearned, tainted every moment afterwards, shaping how you felt and how you were seen.

Pulling away Tom rumbled into Maverick’s mouth, “If you’re spending my money, I expect your attention.” His eyes darted to the man who’d been sitting beside Maverick when he’d walked in. “All of it.”

Summary
“What is it?”
The soft way that Ice spoke, kind and understanding, poised to listen, set off a surge of courage through Maverick’s veins.
“Don’t hit me.”
“Why would I—,” Maverick cut off the question by pressing his lips to Ice’s.

Summary
Setting a piece of garland on the doorframe nearest the kitchen he was startled by the markings up the edge. Ron. Nick. Tom. Carole. Maverick. And sprinkled over the years were various markings with Bradley and his age. Kneeling down, he traced the spiky handwriting he knew was his father’s near the bottom, and peered up at the markings as they gave way to the delicate hand of his mother and then the bold caps made by Maverick. It had been a long time since this house was more than just a storage space; he’d forgotten the height chart was even here.
Bradley didn’t remember his dad, not really. His mom and Maverick did their best to make sure Goose wasn’t just a bedtime story, but nothing could prevent his dad from becoming a larger-than-life figure when every year Bradley measured himself against the space where his father once stood.

So, there he was, sitting in an ER with the patients waiting for their turn to be seen and the loved ones that were waiting for news. Then, with a girl crying two seats down as she held a swollen wrist while her mother comforted her, Bradley realized with heart-stopping clarity that the one person he wanted to call would never answer the phone again.
After years of Ice being little more than a ghost to Bradley, it was easy to pretend that he was just busy with his duties across the world. That his silence was him honoring Bradley’s wish for space.
There was no pretending now.

Summary
The quiet intimacy always brought Maverick a joy he could not have imagined when he was younger. The near silent shuffle as Tom walked through the house turning off the lights. The ease of brushing their teeth side-by-side at the sink. The soft kisses shared in bed, not leading anywhere, just saying ‘you’re here and I’m here and that makes me happy.’
Which made the swinging elbow smashing into his face later that night all the more surprising.

Summary
Though their partnership wasn’t long lived, he felt that there was something between them that might be friendship. So, when he looked up at Goose through his eyelashes, projecting innocent and apologetic, asking if there was any way he might make it up to Goose, he hoped Goose would turn him down. Flip it to a joke. When Goose said, “Convince me,” Maverick’s heart felt like it skipped a beat.
But he could endure. “I can do that.”

Summary
Thumbing through the notifications the first unread text was from Jake.
Hey, can I drop by this afternoon? Got a favor to ask
Forehead scrunched in confusion, Maverick shot off an affirmative. It wasn’t too unusual to hear from the various Dagger Squad. But usually it was a hello, a catch-up meal, commentary on the latest blockbuster, not a favor.

When Tom shuffled to open the door, draped in a blanket like a cape and wishing that he could breathe out of both nostrils, he was not expecting Maverick to be standing on the other side holding a Crockpot with a plastic bag hanging off his arm.

Summary
Tom took a breath and looked down to where their hands were connected, and Maverick followed his eyes, watched as Tom gently drew his thumb against the top of his hand. “The last thought I had when I knew that car was going to hit me wasn’t about my kids, it wasn’t about Sarah. My last thought was, I wish I had been more brave.”
