Summary
“You’re chewing your lip, Mako. Don’t hurt yourself,” Rin says, softly. “Silly Mako, if you’re hungry just say so. Don’t go snacking on yourself.”
Rin gently smoothes his thumb along Makoto’s lower lip, popping his lip free from his worrying teeth, and Makoto slows to a stop as the soft way Rin says Mako, Silly Mako, messes up all the signals in his brain.
(Alternatively; Rin is so bright, and Makoto feels like maybe he won't drown when the ocean tries to pull him down again this time.)

Makoto has always been too small, too gentle for his large physique. He stands tall and confident, but Rin can see through all of that false bravado in the way Makoto subtly ducks his chin when he’s with his friends, the way his eyes flicker downwards when he’s walking, the way his long slender fingers wring themselves together just so they’re doing something—
Right now, Makoto is the smallest Rin has ever seen him.

Summary
The cold autumn wind stings her cheeks and for the moment it takes for the chill to pass, Katie doesn’t completely detest Keith's smoking habit. The heat of the smoke does make the cold more bearable. She still rolls her eyes at the way Keith, although well-intentioned, turns away from her to take a puff. Katie appreciates the sentiment, but she just really wants to just gaze lovingly into Keith’s eyes all the time.
