I remember reading this well before I knew who Lemon was, and really before I’d read MHA erotica of any kind before. It was a startling leap into the deep end, and left some sort of primal impression on me, like an afterimage after lightning. I thought about it often, unsure how I felt about it but haunted by it nonetheless. I didn’t know how I’d stumbled across it or how to find it again once I left. Fascinating to revisit now that I’ve bathed in an ocean of outrageous smut.

Something I love about Chalk’s writing is how it lingers in the mundane specifics of the world.
“What are we supposed to do here,” Shouto says. “I don’t know how to build a nest.”
“I mean, I don’t know either, but we could look it up,” Kirishima says. “I mean there’s gotta be tutorials or something. Or, like, moodboards.”
This pairing normally doesn’t have anything innately compelling to draw me to it, but in Chalk’s hands I love how their game matter-of-factness, their egolessness, becomes the basis of the pull between them.

holy shit? holy shit.
I thought I knew what this was going to be, and then it ended up...just...
This writer has to be someone in the literary world or in the TV/feature world, because the confidence with which they executed this twist - this deliberate genre flip into an existential treatise on yearning? - speaks to some level of expertise. Layered. Mature. Restrained, until the end. I feel physically like I have been punched in the stomach. Also like I just finished watching a relentlessly realistic version of HER. I sat straight up in astonishment and read the last chapter with my mouth literally hanging open.
I feel like I have to tell the world about this and I can't because it's fucking AO3.
Update after rereading 2024 - so fucking good. Ugh ugh ugh. This is the kind of good art that makes me feel despair. Like something so perfect existing leaves me a little hollowed-out somehow. Anyway. I hope the author is still writing, somewhere.

So good. I can't believe this author isn't everywhere. Fresh grounded real writing. The premise itself isn't new, but everything about it feels so earned. So rewarding when you get there. A rare example of a writer who doesn't simply peter out into vague "and then they were happy and had fun" land but continues to have something to say, characters who continue to live. (Also, a deliriously funny scene with Deku and Bakugou trying to act normal for photographs, while Deku starts to come to terms with his sexuality and Bakugou can't resist needling him in a way that is both teasing and comforting.)
Edit 2024 - Just reread with even more relish. Nothing like feeling like you’re in the hands of a damn good writer.

Like the first installment, heartbreaking and infuriating, stuck with me. Think about it randomly, unprompted, all the time. Unfinished, so I wrote my own ending in my head, as a coping mechanism.
(My coping mechanism: I've decided to tell myself that it's a trilogy, that there's a third fic ten years later where all the kids are off to college, Deku decides to take Katsuki on a world tour because he's worried Katsuki will kill himself without any obligations keeping him around, and on that world tour Katsuki visits a country where omegas enjoy actual human rights and strong protections, and while there he discovers a secret underground movement for omega rights...and that his Alpha son is already a part of it.)
