Summary
Some things in life you just take as they are. Gravity. Oxygen. The sun coming up every day. Buck-and-Bucky.
Things change at the camp.
Or, actually, that's not quite it.
At the camp, things expand.

Summary
“Your hand,” Pete says, taking another step so that Bradley is within arm’s reach even though he doesn’t try to reach out just yet. “If you don’t need a doctor then just let me see it.”
Bradley doesn’t move. He does stare down at Pete - literally; Pete’s suddenly feeling the height difference, having to look up at the kid. It’s a little annoying, especially when Bradley’s got kind of a hard look in his eyes, a stubborn expression that Pete knows too well.
“I told you I’m fine,” Bradley says, soft and serious, and then, panicked, “Don’t!” when Pete tries to reach for him.
Just some good ol' fashioned hurt/comfort!

Pete’s whole life is based on split second decisions made without much thought.
On the run, behind enemy lines, it's cold and dark and they don't have much for warmth. You know the drill.

Summary
Alex presses his hand against the small of Michael’s back, brings the other up to grip Michael’s neck. He takes the chance to lean in and press his mouth against the side of Michael’s head, and Michael brings his good hand up to awkwardly grip Alex’s elbow. He can feel his breathing slow down just a little, the tightness in his chest easing up as Alex rests his forehead against Michael’s temple.
The dust below them stops swirling.

Summary
“Um, hello,” a voice that is distinctly not Gale comes through the connection. “Is this John Egan?”
“Yes,” John replies, switching the phone to his other hand, hoping it’s less wet. It’s not. “Who’s this?”
“I’m a nurse at Lakeside Memorial,” she supplies and John’s knees go weak. “I’m calling because your friend, Gale Cleven, was brought in about an hour ago. He was in an accident.”
---
Post-War Snapshot. Gale is an accident and the phone call shakes John. They take care of each other in their own ways during a peaceful weekend at home.Bookmarked by atlanticslide

Summary
“Are you numb, Bucky?” asks Gale, with a tinge of sadness in his voice. “If you are, why won’t you just talk to me?”
“I can’t get the words out,” John admits weakly.
“So what, you want me to throw you about, force them out?”
A hook catches at his stomach and yanks, almost knocking him off his feet. Yes, that’s exactly what he needs. If they were back at base, or in flight school, he’d fall to his knees with a giddy smile and ask to suck cock, or to be stepped on, and Gale would laugh and oblige. But now, there’s something coiled deep inside him, an incessant need to be contrary, to get both him and Buck to feel. To feel human again.
“You can try, I guess,” he says eventually, his throat tight.
Gale goes stiff and rolls his shoulders. “You want another fight?”
“I wanna see if you still have it in you. Can you get me flat on my back? Or are you going to end up on yours?”
Or, dirty stalag fucking.

Summary
“What good are you over there? I want you here.”
They’ve done this numerous times before, back in flight school. Bucky cosied up to his side in bed, the scruff on his cheek scraping over Gale’s collarbone. It only happened when the nights were cold, and Bucky was sloshed.
Plausible deniability.
In what Gale does now, they would be hard-pressed to find deniability of any kind. Both of them eagerly ignore that Bucky is not drunk enough, and that the woefully public nature of their surroundings in no way resembles the safety of their shared room back in Texas.
Climbing into the cot, Gale tries to temper his rapidly beating heart. Bucky will find a way to snug close enough to plaster his ear to his chest. He will hear it, but won’t comment—skirting the line, never to cross it.
Or, Gale is jealous of Bucky's girls.
