    Summary

This isn't how the end was supposed to happen: It was supposed to be quick and glorious, a swift and ultimate victory against the darkness that had plagued the world since its birth, not drawn out and bloody like a siege against an impenetrable fortress.

Now he's lost and alone, but that doesn't really feel all that different from how it's been his whole life. The difference now is that someone else is lost and alone with him.

I really loved this fic, and the ending really warmed me. Elrond’s confusion and hurt and the kindness he found in Kayla’s world, both giving and receiving, really came through. And the mystery throughout of what was real, what was happening, kept me hooked.

    Summary

"Surely not." At the sound of his voice the great shaggy shape stirred, and turned its head. Behind him Asar called out, asking a question, but Maglor barely heard him. He fell to his knees in the wet sand, staring into eyes that gleamed with ancient Treelight and even older starlight. Then his face was being licked clean of tears by a giant tongue, and he was both laughing and crying as he flung his arms around the dog's shoulders, burying his face in wet fur, hardly caring that it was still crusted with sand that scraped against his cheeks. "Huan, what are you doing here?"

    Bookmarker's Notes

I love this story of Maglor and his community. I love him building his own Imladris, and all these OCs living their lives in Harad post-Sauron. The sense of an island of calm despite the danger outside. The way that the unrest caused by the priests just… builds in the atmosphere, and it’s still normal life but there’s a growing fear.

On a walk down the beach in the early hours of the morning, Maglor stumbles upon a body. And then the body comes back to life. Things sort of spiral from there.

idk the Old Guard but I really enjoyed seeing Maglor interacting with the characters and the plot. I like this Maglor through history, and him interacting with green-elves and another type of immortal.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This story gripped me. The feeling of despair and endurance, where endurance isn't a hopeful act but just what needs to be done, and so it is done. Maedhros' deteriorating state, his little breakdowns with his councillor(s) and Finweg, his performance of Fell Lord Maedhros over practical concerns for safety. The ruthlessness of his his rationing and sumptuary edicts and supply distribution favoring the soldiers (who are still hungry), no less ruthless for his lack of quarter given to himself or for their necessity.

    Summary

"My Elf, my friend, my love, my Legolas! Long will I mourn you in silence and secrecy, and find no joy even in the greatest revelries of my people. Curse and bless the requests of Wizards in equal measure! Would that I had never known so great a loss - but then I might never have known so great a love, either, and that would have been a sorry, ignorant life indeed.”

So spoke Gimli, son of Glóin, Grave-Master of Erebor, to the Sea and the shore and all things green and beautiful, and to the Elves' star of hope, flaring into brightness overhead; for they, he felt, would understand, as none other ever could.

(Or: To lay an Elf's ghost to rest is far more complicated than Certain Wizards have advertised.)
