Summary
Julian is born in a field of dandelions on the outskirts of Lettenhove, screaming his way into the world with lungs full of words and songs to be sung.
Forty years later, Julian dies in a field of yellow weeds, silent as a corpse and covered in wounds both in flesh and soul. Laid to rest are his mistakes and regrets, years of living without a choice buried and put behind him.

Geralt can’t remember the last time someone looked at him the way Jaskier does.
Not even his own mother had looked at him that way.

Summary
How could he have lived for so long without seeing this side of Geralt?
Never before has Jaskier seen him so laid back, so happy in his own skin and comfortable enough with his surroundings to act like this. It’s refreshing and heartwarming in a way Jaskier never expected when he first arrived at the Keep.
“Geralt!” Jaskier playfully admonishes in faux astonishment as he swats at the larger man’s chest. “You didn’t tell me you’re a poet! I could have been helping you with your songs for so long!”
“Oh my god no, no more songs!” Lambert shrieks before his voice finally patters off as he moves further into the castle to escape Jaskier’s composing.
Oh well. His loss.

Summary
Roach carries her owner and his daughter over precarious terrain day in and day out, pushing herself well beyond her limits as she senses the mess of emotions coming from Geralt. There truly is no time to waste; not this far in the Blue Mountains, where human lives become scarce and merciless wildlife has taken over.
The journey is as long and tiring as it always is, though now Geralt has Cirilla and his thoughts to keep him company through the mountain passes.
And boy, do they ever.
“I can’t believe you,” Cirilla continues to berate him for the snippets of the conversation she overheard between her two guardians back at their campsite, “Why did you treat him like that? I love you, Geralt, but that’s just mean.” Geralt can feel the vibrations of her voice against his chest where she leans into him on the saddle.
His heart clenches at her proclamation of love, then quickly twists for a whole new reason when she brings up his treatment of the troubadour.
She isn’t wrong.

Summary
The deer tastes better than anything Jaskier has ever had once Yennefer has left their presence.
Or at least that’s what Jaskier thinks as he tears into his portion of meat Geralt had so thoughtfully skinned and roasted for him, Cirilla having had her fill first before either of the men.
Yennefer’s arrival and departure left them with much to think about.

Summary
Geralt might be an infuriatingly dense man with the emotional capacity of one of Roach’s shits, but the heart that beats beneath that mutagen strengthened chest is infallibly good.
Jaskier had seen truly bad people; people who were monsters through and through no matter what form they took. Humans, monsters, animals. They could be one in the same, and more often than not, were a horrid mix of the two.
The witcher is nothing like the monster the human race tries to make him out to be, nor is he the abomination the monsters of the Continent fear him to be.
Yes, he has hurt Jaskier. Yes, he has said things that no friend would say to another. Yes, he turned his back to Destiny and suffered greatly for it, and Jaskier as well by extension.
But Geralt is worth it.

Summary
Only when Jaskier has pushed his body to carry him as far away from the witcher and his ward as he could did he allow himself to break down.
There, in the dark of some rundown inn room he barely has enough coin to rent, does Jaskier cry.
And oh, how he cries.

Summary
Transforming should have felt relieving. Freeing even, for Jaskier had forced himself to stay trapped in his human form for far too long. Hadn’t bathed in his own fire for centuries, nor amassed and protected a hoard like his kind so often tended to do.
Instead, he had placed his love and care into the one person who ever mattered to him, and had it thrown back in his face.
Assuming the form of his real self should have been a weight lifted off his shoulders, but as he scrambles to get his clothes back on from where he had hidden them in a hollow divot in a tree at the opposite end of the forest, all he can feel is pain.
Agony. Soul searing agony in his chest, and a whole lifetime’s worth of fury.

Summary
It happens when Jaskier finally manages to convince himself there hadn’t been a single thing he could have done to keep Geralt from eventually tossing him aside like so many others in his life had.
It was a warm summer day with clear skies, the perfect kind of day Jaskier would have loved to compose an ode to on the road beside a brown mare and her rider.
But alas, Destiny has never cared about what he wants. So of course she decides to throw shit at him when he’s beginning to rebuild himself to reflect how life was before Geralt, before heartbreak tore him apart like claw marks from a beast.

Summary
Nothing surprises Jaskier anymore.
Or, he silently corrects himself as he lets his legs dangle off the ledge on the very mountain his heart had been shattered on, he thought nothing could surprise him.
Of course Geralt had to be the exception to that rule. He always had been, had caught Jaskier off guard in a way nothing else had in centuries the moment their eyes met in that damned tavern in Posada.

Summary
Jaskier wasn’t complaining.
It was shocking, really; an anomaly that would probably never happen again, but even he knew when to keep his mouth shut.
The tensely suppressed air of violence and anger rolling off Geralt made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. Or, it would if they weren’t currently freezing their asses off in a ransacked little shed on the Mahakam Mountains.

Summary
To say Jaskier was annoyed would be an understatement.
Geralt leaving him at whatever inn they happened by during contracts wasn’t new. In fact, the first time the witcher had stood up from a tavern table and stalked toward the door with a gruff demand that Jaskier not follow, the bard had merely sputtered before attempting to trail behind that lonely figure out into the night, only to be not so gently pushed back into the bustling atmosphere of the tavern.

Summary
“I’m not forgiving you that easy.”
“I know.”
“You broke my heart, Geralt, and I know you’re not oblivious to my feelings about you. I never tried to hide them.”
“…I know.”
“You’re an asshole and I should hate you for how you treated me up there,” Jaskier sucked his bottom lip into his mouth and worried it as he stared at the hulking man before him looking like he wanted to either bolt or disappear into the ground. “But I don’t. I don’t think I ever could.”

Summary
When one thinks about the end of the world, different scenarios come to mind, but every idea always seems so abstract. There were hypotheses, of course; nuclear fallout, natural disasters, biochemical warfare. The list was endless and God, was it boring.
The one thing Levi hadn’t given any thought to was, of course, the possibility that everyone he knew could develop a taste for human flesh and hunt the living for sport.

The black night rolled in like a smothering tide that snuffed out all signs of natural life. The still air that surrounded the city filled Yuuri’s lungs with ice and burned on the way out, his breath painfully visible in the unforgiving darkness of the Russian streets.

Summary
Maybe stumbling into Walmart in search of supplies during the end of the world wasn't as good of an idea as Lovino initially thought. Nothing screamed desperate like raiding the aisles of a fucking Walmart for food while a hoard of the undead snarled at him from outside, but that didn't seem to matter to the armed trio he stumbled into, or more specifically, the odd Spaniard munching on Skittles.
His ideas were getting to be pretty lackluster these days.
