“Have you heard of the Village Hidden in Sound? I should like you to return there with me; will you come?”
Karin says nothing for a moment, still eating. Then she takes off her glasses and rubs them in the hem of her shirt, but her shirt is just as filthy with ash and dirt as the lenses, and they get no clearer. “I guess,” she says, at last. She pushes her glasses back on. “Not like I’ve got anywhere else to go.”
(She's kept herself alive this long already; she'll adapt however she has to, and live through this as well.)

Hannibal planned to keep Will in the dark about his encephalitis so he could watch that brilliant mind burn itself up and become something new. In a world without daemons, he might have got away with it.
An AU incorporating elements of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series, beginning partway through the first season of Hannibal. Due to the existence of daemons, the course of the Chesapeake Ripper case is drastically altered — and so too is the relationship between Hannibal and Will.

He imagines the quippy cold open, how he could spin it.
He could put in one of those record scratch sound effects. Or just make the noise with his mouth. Yup. That’s me. John Hamish Podcast Watson. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.
That’d be funny. The listeners would love it, for sure.
But Sherlock had solved this one in less than 48 hours—a mystery that had seemed knotted enough to center an episode around, instead unraveled in a day and a half by the same deft hands currently stimming against his scalp.
Yes, this was, indeed, a fucking disaster.
