Summary
Regina George is one of the most popular girls at North Shore High School, alongside her best friends Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith. She's the person a younger version of herself would've adored and looked up to, just like the celebrities in her magazines. One question her younger self would ask though? "What about Rodrick?"
Queen B Regina would scoff and respond, "Never far away unfortunately." Rodrick Heffley, Gretchen Wieners' half brother and her childhood crush, was where he always was—in the same school, in the same house as her best friend, and stuck in the back of her mind like gum on a shoe.
Regina and Rodrick interacted less and less as time passed, only out of necessity by the time they were in their final years of high school. And 'out of necessity' is exactly what their interactions this year would become. But would need eventually become want? Would circumstance reveal itself to be fate? Would her best friend's brother be the one for her?

Summary
“What do you want, Rozanov?”
Once upon a time, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov had been something of fated rivals. And then. Rozanov's national team crashed and burned in the 2014 Olympics in his own country. Shortly thereafter, he requested a trade to a Canadian team without much explanation, and by the end of the season, he was playing for Ottawa. Years of buildup and progress thrown away. The rivalry lost its luster after that, with Rozanov hardly a competition.
Now, Rozanov was looking at Shane as if they shared a private joke. “I have, ah, Marly, what's the word? Proposition? Proposal?”
“Business offer,” groaned Marlow, drawing his eyebrows together.
“That,” Rozanov smirked. “Let's sit down, Hollander. Hear me out.”

Or: Shane and Ilya never started hooking up. Several years into their career, some things are very different. At an All-Star game, the only out and proud player in the MLH approaches Shane with the suggestion to start a charity together. It's the beginning of something life changing.

It’s like the ground drops out from beneath Ilya, and his heart falls from his chest. It tumbles past rock bottom, down to the cavern that shattered open inside of him on that night five years ago. The night when Ilya walked away from Hollander for the last time.
