He thought Tom was done, but Tom caught his attention again. He pointed to his face. Jerry touched his own face. There were some stray bits of sap. Jerry blinked. He could get this sap easily off. He had no need for Tom’s help. However, if the cat was willing to help, why not? Jerry shrugged, looked up, and closed his eyes.

He knew he’d gone too far when he saw tears in his eyes. A stray insult, said in the heat of the matter, landed too close to the heart and shook the foundation they strived to maintain. It had slipped from his mouth, far too specific to not have been nestled in his brain all this time, and they both knew it. He left. He wished he could undo this. Undo the insult, the argument, the mistakes. But he couldn’t. Neither of them could. All he could hope for, was a chance to redo.

It starts on a nondescript day at some time when it was light outside during unmemorable weather. The conversation Jerry was eavesdropping on between Butch and Tom took an interesting turn.
"What's your type?" Asked Butch.
Tom awkwardly laughed, then looked up to Jerry lazing in the tree and gave chase.
The question echoed in Jerry's head, however. Tom's type? Tom's type...

Tom tried to look as casual as he could, as if he chose to nap in the mud. “It’s the dry air. Horrible on my skin.” He didn’t get a smile. C’mon, that was funny enough for a sarcastic chuckle.
