Summary

In the station kitchen, they all looked at him now. Forks in midair, mouth half opened with food peeked out of their lips.
Buck supposed he had some explaining to do. Quite a few, in fact. Months of time gap he hid all to himself, just him with his quivering heart.
No, not quite that far. Not far enough he had to tell them about the time he accidentally bumped into Tommy in a coffeeshop a few days after the lab explosion. Not that he had to explain how he had an inward battle with himself about calling Tommy for days at that point. If not for anything else, he should at least thank Tommy for saving his family, for risking his life and freedom so every one of the 118 could walk out of the lab alive.
In which, no one died in the lab explosion, Eddie never moved back from Texas, Buck stupidly asked Tommy to be his friend, then tried to save Tommy from an abusive relationship that the pilot had knew nothing about.

There was one awkward encounter on a call. The patient was in dire need of medevac and of course Harbor sent Tommy.
Buck could feel his heart thumping, syncing in the same rhythm as the landing helicopter. As the air whistled around the rotor blades, he heard a howling threatening to break out of his chest and take his heart afar. Far away from him to the sky, until he’s nothing but an empty shell, a walking reminder of what used to be, of a hollow man hearing nothing but the thumping sound of a heart that no longer belonged to him.
