There was no physical evidence of any scuffle, but even under the low gleam of moonlight, Arthur could see how exhaustion was writ over the slump of Merlin’s shoulders and the hunch of his spine. He dragged himself over to Arthur’s bedside and collapsed into a chair, bringing with him a familiar scent of peppermint. The painful, uneven breaths grated on Arthur’s eardrums, and just looking at him made Arthur’s heart clench in sympathy.
After the battle with Nimueh, Merlin isn’t faring too well. Arthur tries to help.
