Nam-gyu rises slowly to his feet. His body is so heavy. He is afraid that it will give out at any moment. Thanos, too, stands, knife red to the hilt. Oh, Thanos, Nam-gyu thinks, and he wants to cry. He looks so exhausted. So unlike himself. It takes everything in him not to rush over, to wipe the blood off of his beautiful face, to kiss the weariness away, to take his hand and say, ‘Enough of this, now, let’s go home.’
Thanos swallows. Gives him that look. Guilty. And he knows. It dawns on him suddenly, and he is filled with dread.
He steps backward. His own knife is heavy in his hand. He holds it out, as if this will protect him from anything at all.
“It’s gonna be that way, baby?” Thanos asks, voice low. “You want it this way?”
