Wen Kexing has the sense to sweep the place where he intends to kneel free of pebbles and other debris, despite Ye Baiyi huffing and rolling his eyes as he does. Ah Xu looks on, silent and angry. Ye Baiyi says that he knows of someone who can cure Ah Xu without damaging his martial arts. What's kneeling for a few months in exchange for that? Ah Xu can be mad about his meddling all he likes. Summary
Realization knocked the breath out of him, sending him staggering backward, catching himself on the wall of his room, sinking to the ground with a weak exhale, his lungs struggling for air he no longer has in him. He wanted to see him again. He hated how they parted and hated how he still felt that he did something wrong. It sent a pang through his chest, hand reaching for his lips, needing to speak to him, to hear his voice again. He stopped himself, using all the strength in his body to lower his hand, head leaning back to rest on the wall as he closed his eyes. He would find this demon, slay it, and go back to where he had unknowingly left his heart. He did not give a damn what anyone else wanted him to do.
Alternatively: Bo Ya gets injured, and Qing Ming has to deal with the after-effects.

Summary
At the command of Emperor He Shouyue the priestess Fangyue from the powerful Jingyun tribes has been abducted, and is now held captive in the Imperial Palace. In a desperate attempt to save the Priestess, the tribe's connection to the gods, Warlord Boya, the famous Vermillion Bird warrior marches the Jingyun army of the Zhuque, Baihu, Xuanwu and Qinglong tribes towards the capital, gathering what information and resources he can on the way.
When they attacked a city on the way to the capital looking for information on the Empire's Plans, Boya had hoped to find books, or at least some some cowardly scholars who might be intimidated into talking. Instead he finds the scholar Qingming, who isn't scared at all, and even seems willing to help the tribe.

“Not at all. It’s been known to happen,” Qingming said. “On rare occasion. I try not to bring my manners out too often, for fear that I’ll wear them out through overuse.”
Qingming was a despicable man, Boya decided, even though he already knew that. Utterly despicable.
He held out his cup for more wine anyway.
