It started at a drive-in in the 1980s.
This isn’t a story about the immaculate conception that happens in the backseats of high school boys’ cars, nor is it the origin story for a New Wave-fueled cocaine addiction. That would be interesting. Unfortunately, this is a love story; a love story about the frontman of Quantum Queef, a punk band, and a boy who rides a red motorcycle.

Felix watched as Dimitri gathered up his papers, shuffling them slowly, absently. Something was wrong. There was something he wasn’t telling him. “What else did Sylvain say?”
The silence lasted a second too long. "He said —" Dimitri stopped, hesitating for another excruciating moment, before he lifted his head to meet Felix’s gaze. “He said he was getting married.”
Felix stared at him, unable to even muster up anger at the sight of pity on Dimitri’s face. It felt as though a sudden wind had blown over him, extinguishing the growing flicker of hope he had pretended he didn’t have. “Oh,” was all he managed to push out of his throat.

"Sylvain doesn’t need help. Sylvain needs to be put out of his misery. Sylvain needs to suck it up, and Sylvain needs to tell Felix about all the things he never had the guts to tell him before so Felix can properly reject him without taking the risk of hurting the company atmosphere, now that Sylvain’s leaving anyway, and Sylvain needs to laugh at that because he’ll never see him again and he’ll never talk to him ever again anyway, and Sylvain needs to delete his contact from his phone and move on to the next one, like he’s always done before."
