Summary
Steven's spent the past several years on his "road-trip to self discovery" waiting for Connie to finish college so he can finally put an end to all this drifting and settle down again. It's all he's wanted, everything he's been looking forward to... but things don't always go the way we plan. Things are changing all around him, people are changing all around him, but increasingly Steven finds that, no matter how much he fights it, he's still stuck in the past.
...then he gets literally stuck in the past. Now he's got new problems--can he fix his traumas before they happen, if he stops his younger self from having to be put through them? Does it matter? Will he reap the benefits of that, or does his timeline simply cease to exist? And, perhaps most importantly: is he stuck here forever?

Summary
Back at the clock tower some hours later, Pluto finds himself dunking weird magical mushroom after weird magical mushroom into a bowl of water, squeezing the tops to try and work the spores out into the water. "Is this safe?" he asks no one in particular. "Am I gonna, like, turn into some kind of monster because the spores are all over my hands?"
"No," Veo says, tail swishing from where she's sitting, up on one of the rafters. "I mean… probably not?"
Pluto sighs a very put-upon sigh, head lolling back and shoulders slumping as he does, "I'll bet I don't even turn into something cool."

Summary
Pluto grapples with that trope where someone recognizes their loved one is or isn't who they say they are simply by virtue of knowing them well enough.
Based on this tiny snippet of conversation from s1e46:
River: When Sebastian disappeared and came back, how did you know it was still him?
Pluto: I looked into his eyes? -

Summary
"I miss you, Laios," he murmurs, voice soft and mournful.
Laios makes a confused sound in his throat. "Here," he asserts.
Chilchuck shakes his head, burrowing a little tighter against Laios's chest in the process. He doesn't know how to explain in a way that will make Laios understand. He's here, but he isn't. He's Laios, but he isn't.
