Feeling a little braver, she puts her hand on the doorknob and twists.
A tall, tanned man has his back turned towards her, and for a second she feels relief wash over her; even from behind, she can tell that he's handsome, at least-
He turns around, and Heather’s stomach bottoms out.
Alejandro looks about as stunned as she feels.

Summary
The summer was his break until he had to think about college or employment. He was going to spend it with friends; days on the East Coast beaches under the hot sun, hanging out with girls he’d think twice about dating, maybe a trip to Florida where one of his old buddies lived.
..but going to the Slovaceks didn’t seem like the worst punishment ever. He was ambivalent to the idea; he would do the same things he was hoping to do all summer – eat as much as he could, laze around like an old family dog, and swim until his muscles spasmed – just without close friends and the freedom of the big city.
When Isaiah’s mom finds his pamphlets for the Marine Corps, she decides to send him to her old friend’s orchard for the summer. He deems it retribution, but what, or who, he finds at the orchard is anything but.

Summary
Courtney and Mandy have been friends for years. They have lived together almost as long.
So when Mandy suddenly says that her childhood best friend will be staying with them at their yearly getaway with Mandy's family
Courtney doesn't think much of it. Assumes Mandy is interested in her friend after just becoming single again.
Only to find out that she herself finds him incredibly attractive. Maybe a little too attractive.
And it could just be her imagination, but from the start there seems to be some kind of chemistry, some kind of tension between them.
