Buck stands on the edge of the pier. The cold fingers of the wind curl around his arms, as if beckoning him closer. It's sickly ironic that he's choosing to do it here. To end his life in the place where he fought so hard to keep it. But maybe there's some poetic justice in that. He was always meant to die. He's simply finishing the task the world has repeatedly failed. So many times he's almost been killed, and yet for some reason he survived. Why him? Why was he deserving of life when others weren't? He has nothing to give. He's worthless. Broken. All he does is hurt the people around him. He wants so badly to die. So why can't he just fucking jump?

Buck's voice is choked. He sounds like he's in pain. Eddie flicks the light on. Buck's face is covered in sweat. He's biting down on his wrist, trying to stifle any sounds of pain. Eddie runs over and kneels next to him, eyes scanning him for any injuries. Did he miss something earlier? He had checked Buck over and hadn't seen anything. Fear roars through his veins, drowning out everything else.

Buck looks towards the voice. He curses internally when he sees who it is. He knew he recognized the voice. It's his ex-boyfriend, Russell. He hadn't seen Russ in years, not since he first moved to LA. He hasn't changed much. Besides a few more wrinkles and a couple grey hairs, he looks the same. Russ had been a mistake. He seemed sweet at first. Turned out that he's a piece of shit. He had cheated on Buck with a guy he met at work. And if that wasn't bad enough, he tried to blame Buck for it, purposely preying on all of Buck's insecurities. Buck had gotten out of there as soon as he could. He was hoping he would never have to see this guy again.

Summary
Buck used to hate summers. There was no school to go so he could escape his parents. He would wander the neighborhood, doing whatever he could to keep himself occupied and away from home. He didn't have many friends. The few he did have would go off to summer camp. He would ask his parents each year, and they'd say no, insulting him however they could in the process. His summers were lonely.
But now, he loves them. He spends them with Chris and Eddie. His summers are no longer lonely, instead filled with laughter and joy.
