Summary
When Eddie was younger, his abuela used to rub holy water along his palms. She’d use delicate lines until his fingers were wet, like it was some sort of ritual.
As if she could sense the blood that would soon be on his hands.
Eddie's bloody, holy water hands that couldn't save the people he loved when it mattered.
Or, the trials and tribulations of Eddie Diaz realizing he's been in love with Buck the whole time.

Summary
There are things that he wants, things that would bring him joy, but they feel so unbelievably out of reach. Catholicism taught him that wanting is weakness. That temptation is a sin. Right now, temptation is lying in the bed next to him, snoring like a chainsaw, holding a pillow to his chest.`
Temptation is going to roll out of bed four hours from now, sleep-rumpled and exhausted, to cook breakfast in Eddie’s kitchen, for Eddie’s kid, for him. Eddie won’t even ask him to. He thinks if he told Buck not to, he’d roll his eyes, push a mug of coffee into Eddie’s hands and tell him to park his ass on a stool.
And he would.
OR
Eddie Diaz's Catholic Guilt, conversations about staying, saying things out loud, endless patience and something close to but not quite spooning.

Summary
"Eddie doesn’t really remember the ride back to the station.
He’s vaguely aware of the three sets of eyes very deliberately not staring at him. He’s hyper-aware of one particular set that's been glued to him since before they left the scene. Since the moment he started to float away. Since before that, probably. Since they both walked in for their shift hours before."

Summary
"In a kind world," Eddie says quietly into his half-full beer, unable to meet their eyes. "In a kind world, Buck knows, and he loves me back. In the kindest world, though, we've never met."
He can't do this. Not now. Maybe not ever. This was stupid.
He needs to go.
"This was- this was stupid, I gotta... yeah," Eddie murmurs, unable to look up; he doesn't want to know how they react. Disgust? Sympathy? Regret? Curiosity?
He doesn't want any of it.
Eddie fishes his wallet out of his pocket, slaps down a twenty, and walks off.
Nobody says anything about the single teardrop next to the crumpled bill.

Summary
"And he does see it. He’s seeing it all; every speck of smoke, and dust, and pain; the once painted-white wood of a porch that ached to carry twin rocking chairs being consumed by never-ending waves of fire. He’s branding it into his brain, engraving it so deep he’ll never forget seeing it."
or; eddie diaz angst, because every piece of him is worth seeing.
