Satoru’s always loved sweets. Even more so if they’re a gift.
It’s nine in the morning when Gojo Satoru wakes up, still rubbing away the sleep in his eyes, still drowsily yawning as he moves towards the kitchen. He can already imagine it, waiting for him; sweet, sticky goodness, on the kitchen counter. Suguru will have wrapped it himself, or otherwise he’ll have bought a decorated paper bag for it, tied together with a ribbon. On the ribbon there will be a note, usually with a fun fact about whatever snack he’ll have brought home, with a personal comment on the back of the note.

A scene at an abandoned amusement park unfolds, two young boys standing atop a ferris wheel as they meet face to face with their first gigantic abomination. A grade one, that much is obvious, and neither of the boys seem to be breaking so much as a sweat so far. The curse’s body is contorted, shaking with anticipation. It revels in the thought of utterly destroying two young sorcerers, not knowing what fate laid in store for it.

Summary
It’s all so easy. It’s easy to pretend he’s over it, to pretend he’s angry, to pretend he isn’t sad one bit. It’s easy to view the Suguru he’d spent time with during school as an entity completely set aside from the Suguru he’d put out of his misery that December evening.
Here’s what isn’t easy. Returning to an empty room, where the music Suguru’s carefully selected isn’t playing, where the only dinner waiting for him is cup ramen. Where whenever he closes his eyes, he meets those of someone he shouldn’t even be thinking about. Where he barely sleeps more than three hours, because he’s haunted. Where even the good dreams are bad.
