Summary
Scanning the crowd, Boyd’s gaze was drawn to a girl standing on the big back porch and Boyd couldn’t believe she was alone. Her skin glowed in the light from the setting sun and it made her fair hair shine like spun gold. She was wearing a loose white dress that the light breeze made flutter around her and a small mysterious smile graced her lips. Though alone, she seemed content.
“That’s Erica,” Isaac supplied when he noticed Boyd’s gaze. “You should talk to her. She’s pretty cool. Doesn’t really like people much except from a distance.”
“Kind of like you,” Cora teased with a smirk.

Summary
Derek is twelve years old and he’s outside with Laura when the scent catches them. They don’t even bother putting their shoes back on before running from the river where they’d been hunting for mudbugs. Derek clings to his sister’s hand, two weeks from being eighteen and as tough as they come. Twigs and rocks and thorns and roots tear into their feet as they run but the cuts heal as quickly as they acquire new ones and it doesn’t matter.
By the time they get there, Peter is laying on the ground outside the house, unconscious with little Cora in his arms, protecting her from the flames that were licking up the wood of the house. Derek runs for it but Laura holds him back tightly, clinging to him, her blue eyes wide and frightened. Derek can hear their family inside and he wonders why Laura’s not trying to do something.
That’s when a loud roar goes up, Laura collapses, and when she opens her eyes again they’re crimson red and Derek knows their family is lost to them.

This is my submission for my fic battle with Kerri for the prompt "fairytale". S'not exactly a fairytale but it's tangentially related so I'm counting it.
Also a disclaimer: I've never been to Disneyland before and I'd already gotten to almost the end of this before I realized that the map I had been looking at was a map of Magic Kingdom in Florida. So. Sorry about that but I was too lazy to go back and fix it.

“Juliana, this is Derek. There’s a key to our Manhattan apartment in the pocket of Mila’s diaper bag. Take whatever you need from the house. It’s going to take me a bit longer than I thought. I’ll send money for Mila and I’ll transfer my truck’s title to you so you can sell it. Laura’s been murdered and I need to find out who did it. I’ll call back later. Tell Mila I love her and I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay?” Derek hung up and pressed his forehead against the rickety railing of his charred childhood home, a dry sob wrenching from his chest before he could stop it.

Summary
Derek tried his hardest to get back to normal, if not for his own sake then for his family's. He couldn't keep being the zombie that he'd been acting like the first few weeks. So he forced a smile and after awhile he thought people even started to believe it.
But at night he still went to bed and he tossed and turned with nightmares until he woke up even more exhausted than he had been before he went to sleep. The only days that he got any sleep were the days when he found Stiles' letters in his mailbox because they were just another confirmation that Stiles was still alive, that somewhere on the earth Stiles still existed to let his hand move a pen across a page to form words meant for Derek. That was enough.

They don’t talk about it much, at least not right away. After everything, Lydia slides into the backseat of Derek’s car without thinking about it much; without thinking of anything really except staying close to Jackson. He keeps an arm around her and she keeps her face buried in his neck, shamelessly clinging to one another. Maybe a few weeks ago Lydia would be discouraging this sort of dependency, wouldn’t even admit to needing it. But...but she really did love Jackson, no matter how she made it look on the outside. She could use as many layers of foundation and lipgloss and mascara she wanted, but there was no changing that she loved Jackson.

Stiles sat next to the hospital bed, dozing but still shaking his leg anxiously. His eyes were drooping and he tried not to think about why he was sitting there, listening to the slow and steady beeping of Derek’s heart monitor.
“What?” Stiles asked sleepily into the receiver, rolling over to check the time. “It’s four fifteen in the morning.”
“Derek’s been taken and we don’t know where he is,” came Scott’s frantic reply.
