“About that.” Troy said, “Do you…would you mind…giving me Shane’s phone number?” Troy ran his hand through his hair. Ilya was packing the last item from his locker into his bag when he froze as Troy finished that question.
“For what reason?” Ilya asked, as he pretended to fidget with the last item in the bag.

Troy just joined the Centaurs. He's not doing well mentally, but a friendship with Ilya Rozanov improves his self-worth slightly. He musters the courage to ask Ilya something....for Shane's phone number.

Summary
Shane is still learning that he doesn't have to be perfect in his own relationship. Ilya is still learning the rules of Shane's bad days. So when Shane tries to push him away after a crushing loss, it leads to a tense argument. But ten years of rivalry are no match for Shane’s tears; the second he starts to cry, Ilya folds like a house of cards.
Or: Shane tries to starve himself as punishment for losing, Ilya tries to feed him, and it turns into a very soft night of pampering because Ilya is legally incapable of staying angry at a crying Shane.

Shane does not know about any plane crash, but he is disconnected from the news anyway, especially on game day. He asks, “What plane crash?”
”The Ottawa Centaurs,” the reporter says, and Shane’s heart—stops.
