He was so sure of the fact that he would die, and he was so sure that drinking that ginger ale was the only way to prove to Ilya that he still loved him. Hands shaking, he pulled the tab.

or Shane Hollander has OCD. It has very little to do with his folding his clothes during a hookup or his cleaning habits or the pre-game rituals he followed with the rest of his team. Instead, he worried his parents might die and checked to make sure the stove and oven were off over and over and over again. Instead, he worried that Ilya's raised eyebrow meant he was about to leave and thought about it until (and long after) he exhausted himself. Instead, he imagined a freak accident would end his hockey career by landing him behind bars and had a panic attack in the middle of a game.

Tragedy hadn’t made you stronger. Tragedy made it harder to get out of bed in the morning. Your parents moved away after your death, but the house stood there just the same. Your bedroom was exactly the same, down to your unmade bed. In the haze of early morning, you woke up and reached out for Kipperlilly and the warmth she always radiated. That always made it easier to get out of bed and bask in the chill of morning air. Even towards the end she was curled up in your bed, curled up against you. You wondered if she planned your murder here, while you held her to your chest.

Even after everything, Lucy still loved Kipperlilly. Before his mind could process the occurrence, he was suddenly enveloped - caught in the unyielding grip of two powerful arms - unforgivingly tight. He couldn’t see who, he could barely process where and why, but he felt himself shaking and his eyes burning and leaking raindrops on the shoulder of the force who squeezed tighter. Minutes passed, who knows how many, in complete silence other than the gasps coming from Shane as he sobbed. When he felt his heart reach a relatively normal pace, and the drumming in his ears quieted, he felt himself melt for a moment in the arms he still hadn’t recognized until he heard the voice. “Hollander, you are having panic attack.” Shane froze.

Summary
Shane returns from the showers to find the locker room far more animated than when he left it. Everyone has their phones out, and when he sees Shane coming, JJ says, “Câlisse, Hollander, about fucking time! Ilya Rozanov got caught kissing a man.”
After the tuna melt debacle, but before Rose, Ilya makes the reckless decision to go to a gay bar to take his mind off of Shane. When photographs get published, Shane has a realization and devises a plan: he's going to ask Ilya Rozanov to marry him.
Ilya's going through enough without things he can't have being dangled in front of him. He needs to figure out a different way to avoid going home, because eventually Shane Hollander will realize what Ilya already knows: Ilya isn't worth what Shane wants to do for him.
