Most of all, he clings to the ephemerality of it.

Most of the time Will still didn’t believe it. Didn’t believe that he and Mike lived together. That they slept in the same bed, and stole each other's clothes, and watched movies together, and ate together every meal. That they kissed like lovesick fools. He knew that if you told Will at the age of 13 that he was allowed to love someone like this too, he’d probably spontaneously combust.
Will was so, so happy. He could tell that Mike was happy too. Mike had smiled more than he’d seen him smile in years. Which is why Will felt like the worst person ever.
Today was William Byers’ birthday. Mike had been so sweet to him all day. He’d gotten him the most beautiful set of acrylics Will had ever seen, made him breakfast which was only slightly burnt, and had spent his entire day by Will's side. And Will just couldn’t stop remembering.
Will was bitter for some reason. He was bitter against his sweet, amazing boyfriend. Because Will couldn’t stop remembering the day he turned 15 at Rink-O-Mania 6 years ago.
Or, Will gets drunk on his birthday and finally talks to Mike about how his birthday was forgotten in season 4. They cry. Will gets an apology that he deserves.

Summary
There are few things about Dustin Henderson that he does not share with his friends.
Dustin isn’t very secretive. He’s an open book, really. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, and he never really saw a point in lying anyway. It causes unnecessary drama he doesn’t have time or energy for, and friends don’t lie.
But, there are expectations.
Like, when Dustin was 5 and he broke his grandmother’s urn by playing around with his older cousin. He then blamed it on said cousin, and who would ever expect a cute face to tell such a lie? Or, like in 5th grade when he accidentally broke one of Mike’s mini figures and blamed it on Lucas. Mike wouldn’t talk to the other for a week. Dustin only felt a little bit guilty.
Or, the fact that he’s desperately in love with his best friend’s girlfriend.
