“Could you help me put it on?”
Taking the necklace from Kaveh with a lingering brush of their fingers, he stepped close and suddenly, Kaveh was realizing why asking for Alhaitham's help was a very, very bad idea.
The air turned heavy as Alhaitham laid the necklace around his neck, making sure that the pendant rested on the warmed skin right above his heart.
Then, without breaking eye contact, he leaned down and pressed a reverent kiss on Kaveh's nape—so featherlight that Kaveh wondered if he was imagining things—just above the clasp of the necklace.

Summary
As Kaveh’s coronation draws near, it becomes clear that forces within the castle want to keep him from ascending to his rightful position as king. Unfortunately for them, Kaveh is guarded by a man who would burn the entire kingdom to ashes before letting him fall - even if loving him borders on treason.
When a hidden plot threatens Kaveh’s life, the careful line he and Alhaitham have drawn between longing and duty since childhood begins to give way. With a throne demanding obedience and a heart that refuses it, Kaveh puts his trust in the one man who has always seen the brilliant mind beneath his crown, determined to secure both his kingdom and his future before the forces working against him can claim either.

The first Guide that is brought forward is a mess. Al-Haitham keeps his head down as the exchange commences, and once she is let go, Kaveh himself stands up and makes his way down off his throne. Then he looks at Al-Haitham and asks him to touch his hand.
It takes approximately half a second for Al-Haitham to know that he is doomed for life.
Al-Haitham enters a marriage of convenience with Kaveh, the new king of Sumeru.

Summary
“Speaking of cute,” Kaveh continues, “the client- you know, the one who gave me Parry? She’s totally my type.” Kaveh sighs wistfully. “It’s a shame we met through work. Otherwise, I would’ve taken her out to dinner sometime.”
With what mora? Alhaitham thinks, the witty remark on the tip of his tongue. However, the curious side of Alhaitham takes over his vocal functions.
“Your type is… cute?”
Kaveh blinks at his unusual question but recovers quickly. “Yeah, pretty much. But that’s basically everybody’s type.”
Alhaitham’s type, he surmises, is tall, blond, red-eyed architects, so he’s not sure where Kaveh is getting his evidence from.
—
Alhaitham learns that Kaveh’s type is “cute.” He loses his mind a little.

Summary
“Why does it not–” Kaveh’s voice ripped out in a whine. “Have you not thought about it at all since then?”
A long pause. The longest one yet. “Who says I haven’t?”
Lightning flashed through the window, illuminating Al-Haitham’s face. Half of it was still wrapped in shadow, blocked by Kaveh’s head, but he could see the distance between them measured, laid flat by the light. The lightning went. The room went dark. But the memory of Al-Haitham’s wide eyes did not leave him.
What did he want?
“Have you?” asked Kaveh.
“Have you?” Al-Haitham’s voice was so quiet, buried under the murmur of the rain.
Kaveh swallowed. “I mean…I thought that was obvious.”
Kaveh accidentally sleeps with Al-Haitham. And then...keeps sleeping with him.
