Summary
If he were here she’d get a juice pop and a story out of the whole sneaking-outta-bed thing, but the theme of this weekend, and the rest of her life apparently, is that he isn’t. So she wraps her tiny arms around her pillow and listens to the unfamiliar voices floating up from the floor below, the occasional laugh turning into a choked sob, the clink of bottles on glasses and the overwhelming weight of grief resting upon her childhood home.
A teenager with floppy hair stumbles up the stairs. She recognizes him from the picture in the kitchen, and unlike the other strangers, he doesn’t make any attempt to hide his crying.
“Are you. Okay?" he asks, "Like do you need anything, should I go get Pepper, or?”
She shakes her head.
“Are you sure? Uh, m-my name’s Peter, by the way”
She hesitates.
“Peter, do you know any good bedtime stories?

Amy’s a member of the New York City Police Academy and that is the biggest priority in her life, followed only by flirting with fellow recruit Olivia. She waits by the door in the mornings, wordlessly handing Amy a coffee and falling into step with her, nodding and giving the occasional grin as as Amy chatters on and on in her flustered, lovesick way.

Jake opens the door to see his daughter soaked from the rain, face red from the cold, clearly radiating anger. His mirror image, sporting the same tells he had as a teenager, all clenched fists and glistening eyes.
“Charlie? Are you okay? I thought you were sleeping over with Iggy?”
She stares at him for a minute before rushing forward and throwing her arms around him, her tiny shoulders shaking with sobs.

“We wanted to be bird feeders.” Number Four grinned, leaning over to pick a chia seed off of Number Six’s ear.
“Like the one we made during crafts.” Number Six elaborated, pushing his brother’s hand away from his face. Grace had used last week’s recreation time to make peanut butter bird feeders with her children. She had carefully written the report asking for permission, justifying her choice with data about gross motor skills and basics of biology instruction.
This had not been in her contingency report. She would need to be more thorough next time.Or, raising seven four-year-olds while having limited free will isn't easy.
