Summary
How far would she go? It was something she would ask herself, on the dark days in the senate, when nothing went her way. How far would she go? Would she bleed for the Republic? Of course. Die for it? In a heartbeat.
But would she sacrifice Anakin? Sacrifice her child? The thoughts ate at her, consumed her as the galaxy heaved and collapsed around her ears and if she fought- truely fought for the safety of her family, when the chips came down which side would she end up on? The good? The bad? Did it even truely matter?
If choosing between her family and her ideals made her the very thing she'd been fighting against, then maybe she should have laid down her weapons long ago.
Maybe... She should have sided with whichever force kept her family safe.

Homecoming AU.
Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves.
Simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.

And oddly, it's their forthright manner here that's throwing him off guard, more than anything.
Through the crown, he had listened in on their sermons. They were a talented preacher, sometimes fearsome and sometimes loving, always grandiose. He'd drunk deep of the devotion their fervor inspired, and of their own fidelity to the gospel in their hand, penned carefully in his name. Their own worship.
And now, they spoke to him as if they were haggling with one of the vendors on the outskirts. Like that poorly disguised cannibal who sold them fish.
