Summary
Guy Anatole has a late-night coffee problem.
With a mere four days to go before he starts working at a prestigious law firm, Guy knows he needs to kick the caffeine habit to have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting to the office for 9am. But when one last trip to his favourite coffee shop results in Guy crossing paths with a mysterious stranger, he finds himself returning again and again in the hopes of meeting him one more time.
Or: Jasper travels to New York to investigate the human telepath the Talamasca have their eyes on recruiting to their corrupt ranks. One well-placed thought about how poorly Guy dresses for someone so pretty is all the bait he needs to hook the boy on a different path.

Summary
Flashing images of a middle-aged woman at a bar, her hand around Guy's throat, thumb pressing below his chin as she whispers “Good boy…” into his ear.
A college professor – an older man with greying hair - putting his hand on Guy’s shoulder and praising him on his last paper, promising him a bright future ahead if he keeps this up.
A woman with white hair and intense eyes, gently molding him and manipulating him into joining the Talamasca, telling him he’s very, very special.
And then, tucked neatly into that little row of memories is the feeling of Jasper gently pushing his hair back. Jasper’s hand on his face as he disinfects his head wound. Jasper feeding him breakfast and laying out new clothes. Jasper taking care of him in all these little ways.
“There we go, kid, let me see it…”

“You could leave the Talamasca any time you want. You can come with me right now, it could be us together like it should’ve been in the first place. I’ve told you that—”
“With you?” Guy laughs. And the thought you tried to kill me yourself crosses his mind, because of course it does and maybe it always will, and he knows Jasper is expecting him to voice it. But they’ve already fought about it, haven’t they? And it’s not what’s really concerning Guy right now. “From what I can see, you can’t even protect yourself.”
Post-season 1, after Jasper escapes Amsterdam and Guy is dragged back into the Talamasca, they continue to meet in secret when they can.

Summary
Jasper’s hand lays over his heart, and his whole body jolts without moving. Those terrifying eyes stare at him, and he stares back even as the pulse pound of his heart roars, thumpthump thumpthump, a pace that Jasper can surely feel under his hand. No heat seeps through the touch but the press of it roots him even as it unmoors him. Jasper has moved closer somehow, the negligible height difference between them means that they’re now eye to eye. He wants to blink; he wants to look away; he wants to flinch.

Summary
He can feel him before he sees him, like a thumb pressed to the inside of his skull, the soft scrape of a familiar mind against his. One life, Jasper thinks, and look at the mess we’ve made of it.
Neither of them move. Jasper has the ridiculous thought to pinch himself, see if he’s not transparent, as if he’s a projection illuminated only by want. Guy is thinner than he remembers. His hair is shorter (curious, that), shadows under his eyes darker than they used to be. He looks sharper. He’s focused, more precise, whittled after the year-or-so that he’s probably been on the run. Jasper is aware of the exact distance between them, the corridor of it; the want is suddenly almost audible, a roar in his ears, a string stretched between them.
