Joel thinks about his crossbows, about his explosives, about all the ways he could do this. He’s thought plenty about how he’d kill Scott, given the chance. He thinks about Grian screaming for Joel to kill him. He thinks about handing Jimmy the bomb that killed him.
He grabs his sword instead, and climbs up onto the bed until he’s above Scott, knees bracketing his chest, the sharp point of the blade placed over Scott’s sternum. “If you vanish and turn up somewhere else—”
“You don’t have time to spare threatening me,” Scott interrupts. Joel stabs him before he can finish the sentence.
Jimmy’s dead, and Joel’s not handling it well. Unfortunately for him, Scott’s handling it even worse.

Just as the woman on screen was moaning her reply, "Thank you, mommy! Thank you for letting me come!" Joe felt his own pressure building in his lower abdomen, and saw the door to the bus (which he thought he'd locked) fly open to reveal Tricia and Pete in the doorway.
His hand that had been fisted around himself flew to cover as much of his dick as possible, his fingers splayed as wide as they would go. “Fuck, sorry, sorry,” he repeated, his face so warm he felt like he was on fire. His whole body felt like it was shaking with how close he had been to getting off, only to be stopped short.

Summary
Thirty wasn't supposed to be like this, for Patrick. He's single, lonely and convinced that there's literally no one left on Earth who might be desperate enough to date him. None of his long-term relationships with women have worked out, and Pete has convinced him to get on Tinder to further explore 'dudes' as he did when he broke up with Anna, years ago.
Joe has other priorities - touring takes him away from home a lot and sharing custody of three-year-old Ted when he's at home in LA means his options are limited to those foolish enough to be willing to deal with someone else's kid in a city full of hyper-attractive proper celebrities.
In solidarity, they encourage each other, give each other date roadtests and compare notes. Patrick babysits, Joe offers advice, and Ted doesn't care as long as he gets to make pillow forts with his favourite person.

Patrick spends the Believers Never Die Part Deux tour secretly monitoring his growing crush on Joe. He has an equation that he uses to keep track of it--it’s complicated, but it involves boner-thoughts, hand-holding-thoughts, addition, subtraction, and division, which has to be at least 3/4ths of the elements needed for a serious mathematical calculation. He furtively plots the results in a spreadsheet, doesn’t really think about it the rest of the time, and everything is very normal and totally fine.
Obviously.
Then Joe announces his plan to try online dating, and that goes straight to hell.
