Summary
When they had first met, Pen had been dressed as a young man, and had continued her disguise as such through the early days of their acquaintance. Although Sir Richard had known almost from the start that she was a girl, he had helped her perpetuate her ruse, even going so far as trimming her hair and helping her learn to tie her cravat properly. He had not known whether after their marriage she would resume dressing as a young lady, and had made it clear that it was her choice. She had worn a frock for their wedding ceremony, but afterwards, she had continued to dress in breeches. It seemed to suit her fancy, and since Richard had no complaints about the matter, no one else could reasonably decry her mode of dress, except in the most veiled whispers.
"I love you, you rapscallion, no matter what you might call yourself."
"I know," Pen said with a charming confidence. "But if I was a boy in truth, would you still love me?"
