Summary
Finally, after months of begging, Katooni has her own mission. It’s a test, really—Master Ahsoka says if she wants to learn Jar’Kai, she needs a second lightsaber, which means she needs a second kyber crystal. It's not as easy as going to Ilum this time though. Whatever. It’s not like she’s a Jedi anyways. And there are other ways to get a kyber crystal besides finding a brand new one.
There are definitely more stormtroopers patrolling today than there were four days ago. They walk in pairs, blasters down, scanning the area. One of them looks at her as he passes, so she gives him a big smile. Master is so dismissive of the troopers, but Katooni figures it doesn’t hurt to try to be friendly. That way they won’t be sad if she has to kill them.
The trooper puts his hand to his ear. Must be getting a comm through his helmet. Katooni could tune her comm to their channel, listen to their chatter. It would be useful—it’s likely that the stormtroopers are here for the same reason she is. But as she’s pulling her comlink from her pocket, something in the corner of her eye shines in the light and she has to see what it is.

A knot unclenched in her stomachs. She let out a quiet exhale. She wished they’d proceed swiftly. Yes, they had been wrong, and now they would right that wrong. She had been cleared of all charges, they just had to—
“However,” Master Windu said, a single word that caused her heart to spike. “We must also consider your actions during this crisis.”
Her newly found calm vanished as if it had never existed. “My actions?” she repeated, wary.

The statue of Dooku stared back at Barriss, determination present even in his bronze gaze. The Jedi shouldn't be immortalizing this, she thought. Not darkness. Not traitors.
"You have to admire him," a deep, baritone voice said over her shoulder.
"Master Krell!" Barriss squeaked. She recovered quickly and dipped her torso forward in a polite bow. Still a padawan, she had only encountered the famed Jedi Master Pong Krell a handful of times. She wasn't even sure he knew her name. "What could one possibly admire about Count Dooku? He's killed so many people."
"His clarity," Master Krell said. "It takes a visionary to see the world as it is, and not what the Jedi think it should be."
One conversation with Jedi Master Pong Krell didn't mean much to Barriss Offee all those years ago. Now, surviving in a galaxy without Jedi, she reflects on when she began to let the light slip through her fingers.

As the galaxy falls apart, Ahsoka Tano finds that leaving the Jedi Order will not save her from the Empire's purge - not when the galaxy's new Emperor specifically wants her dead. But Palpatine is not the Sith Lord she has the most to fear from, as her former master seeks to pick up where he left off with her. Ahsoka's only choice is to hide and try to save as much of the Jedi as she can. But when an old friend seemingly returns from the dead, she has to decide whether Barriss Offee is worth saving - from the Empire and from herself.
