Summary
Time passes slowly.
The first time Kratos challenges him to a fight out in the world, Yuan is surprised. If someone sees, they risk word of Angels fighting making it into the population. The Church is young, and if they’re not careful they will fuck up the theology.
But Kratos has led him away from people, and the stars are bright, and if Yuan looks up at them too long he’ll get melancholy, thinking of stargazing with Martel before everything fell apart.
When the dust settles, and they lay in furrows they gouged in the dirt, Yuan laughs, wincing.
Kratos smiles.
Yuan asks why Kratos brought him out here, and Kratos answers, “You needed someone to get you out of your head.”

Vash isn’t sure there was a time when he didn’t remember. He remembers being small, again, at night, him and Nai. Freshly tucked in, in their comfy, soft beds, with a suburban lawn and a couple dozen trees on the street where all their neighbors set the sprinklers to run at night, and knowing without a doubt that he’d lived on a planet of two blistering suns and vast stretches of sand.
He remembers meeting Nai’s eyes across the room and knowing Nai remembered, too.

It’s as Shen Qingqiu crushes the last little fluttering Iridescent Gem Beetle that the mother decides to introduce herself by burrowing up out of the earth like a cicada the size of an elephant. He just barely has time to resign himself to an even more exhausting fight than the last one - with no rest point in between to chug stamina potions or anything! Honestly, what poor game design! - when the stranger appears.
He charges into the scene out of nowhere like an absolute bullshit deus ex machina, all dark, flowing hair and robes, whirling around to stab at the Mother Beetle with a gleaming white sword, making it screech and rear back in pain. Seriously, Shen Qingqiu feels like he’s suddenly trapped in a video game cutscene introducing the new companion! Where’s the background music and camera close up? Who is this guy?

Summary
Shen Yuan wakes up to the sound of crying.
He lies there for a moment, feeling like cling film stretched too tightly over something pointy, in danger of tearing down the middle but holding on by his fingernails. It’s dark, it’s smelly and he is laying face down against a heated stone floor, or maybe it’s just some faux stone tiles for the nature aesthetic. It feels like his brain got replaced with moss or cotton or balled up, wet paper towels that’s coming apart. In the stretched out moment where he takes it all in, he decides this fucking place sucks, and he will never visit again.
The crying is to his left.
