Summary
Ian has been estranged from his mother for the past eleven years, because after being burned by her time and time again, he could not do it anymore, he had to save himself. He's done well for himself -got in with a good marketing company for five of those years, and even moved out of South Side.
But not everything lasts... in one day, Ian loses his career and his year-long relationship... and then ten days later learns that Monica has taken her own life, leaving him with all her possessions. Now freed up from his responsibilities, Ian heads down to a small, isolated town to deal with Monica's fallout.

Ian doesn’t answer him. Not right away.
It’s silent for long enough that Mickey shrugs it off and goes back to looking at the sky. He’s long since accepted the fact that Ian’s weird. He doesn’t dislike it or anything, it’s just how it is.
So he doesn’t think much about the non-explanation.
Until Ian finally speaks.

Summary
Jace never escapes Valentine’s ship but instead Valentine turns him to his side. Despite this, when Valentine attacks the New York Institute, Jace spares Alec's life. Alec adapts to his new life, becoming first a prisoner and then a lover to Jace and later to Jonathan as well, learning to enjoy belonging to them in all ways. Valentine believes Jace and Jonathan are fully under his control and that they have managed to break Alec completely. He doesn’t realize that the bond Jace and Jonathan establish with Alec, will become the catalyst for rebellion and the beginning of the end for him and the Circle.
