They've been together for some months now but they're still kinda new to the whole bed activities thing. Archie still doesn't know every triggers and sensitive spots on Maxie's body but he's a fast learner.* I usually headcanon them as past lovers but with this story let's pretend they got together for the first time 1 year and a half after ORAS and so they still need to know each other in that sense.
